"Half a Game, Half the Price" - 31 March 2008
You get what you pay for with GT5: Prologue, and that's half a Gran Turismo. No bad thing. This is not an arcade mode where you have to unlock every car, there are races of various classes and you win prize money to buy other cars just like a real Gran Turismo.
Although you only have the tip of the iceberg's amount of cars, there's still a good range. Most dealers have at least 2 models to choose from. Same goes for the tracks, there are 6. Fair enough, but i'm getting a little tired of racing the same ones all the time. Maybe we'll see a few more added as downloadable content in the future.
Normaly i don't get hung up on graphics, but this is Gran Turismo. They're predictably impressive but i have to say i was a little underwhelmed by some of the evironments, some tracks have quite an arcade machine feel to them. Can't fault the car detail though.
Gameplay, well i don't drive so i can't really draw an comparisions. But if you've got a basic understanding of speed and turning corners i can't see anyone having any complaints. If you're really into all the realism you can turn on the Pro driving mode and adjust traction control and all that, but i found it didn't make a massive difference to the handling of the car. The 'first person' for lack of a better term, driver view is really very good. I find when some racers adopt this view they abscure quite a lot however in GT5P i found it more often than not the best point of view.
I havent raced online yet, but i get the feeling it's going to be more like glorified bumper-cars around the corners rather than a skillfull bit of late breaking to pass someone.
GT5P is fun, but nothing more than a stop-gap for the real thing. Certainly worth the money though.

"GT5 Prologue Review" - 30 March 2008
Good Points
1. Looks stunning in HD at 1080p
2. Set car physics to professional and turn the driver assists down/off and it becomes a different game, one of the best car driving simulators out there
3. New in car view looks and feels great
4. Even though tracks and cars are limited, hours of game play in there for £20
5. Had the Prologue for GT4 so knew what to expect, just hope you get to transfer credits to the full game when it comes out as before
Bad Points
1. No tyre management, car tuning, modifications or upgrades in GT5 Prologue and hope/expect this is not the case in the full version
2. No real time crash damage and bouncy crash barriers
3. No Spec B mode, so prepare to spend hours saving up for that F40!
4. That's it...
If you are a GT fan you know what to expect and what you are looking for, if you are new to GT note this is a driving simulator, not Need for Speed, so it requires a lot of time and effort to get any good.
Each car in this game is given to an individual computer programmer to drive, record, data log and put in the game, so it's as close as you can get to the real thing. If you don't believe me ask my girlfriend, she learnt to drive on GT4 using a Logitech wheel and pedal set and passed her driving test first time round!!!

"Great value - racing purist? Buy it!" - 2 April 2008
People, don't forget this is under £20 delivered online and you are getting good value for that money. Yes there are a few things to improve on, but they will no doubt be ironed out by the time the next version arrives.
From what i can see you cannot meet up with friends online or even trash talk via the headset but the online racing is hilarious none the less. To make it worthwhile you must pass the C B A class events to open up the game (cannot tune car without doing this), but that doesn't take long and you can usually pick up about 10 cars along the way.
It is a lot easier to pick the few faults with the game than to list what they've got right - that speaks volumes about the game. Apart from the two online disappointments i spoke of earlier, the only other issue is the collision scheme and the penalties that are dished out. They are not consistent but 75% of the time they get it spot on... eg if someone drives round the track backwards for a laugh, normally they ghost right through you but sometimes they'll catch you and send you spinning.
At the end of the day, its £20 very well spent and not a single regret.
Please be aware, after installing the game and update, it took up over 6gb of hard drive space!!!

"Realistic? Where?" - 20 April 2008
I must say that I agree totally with 'one-eyed Jack', in saying that the game is so inconsistent at times. The CPU-controlled cars don't seem to obey the same laws of physics as the car you are driving. They are able to accelerate out of corners with ease, while you, in the exact same car, suffer huge amounts of wheelspin if you try to use anything like full acceleration.
Another laughably inconsistent feature is the new penalty system. This was intended to stop players from cheating by ramming into the back of cars or bouncing off barriers. Most of the time, especially during online play, the penalty system is grossly unfair. For example, players are still allowed to give you a small nudge from behind and push you wide through a corner. They are then free to carry on, while you get a 'short cut' penalty for going wide. Other times, a player will dive down the inside at a hairpin and nudge the side of your car, and you will get a 'ramming' penalty. "The Real Driving Simulator"? Don't make me laugh!
Having said that, I am still completely obsessed by the game and simply cannot stay away from the online races. Hopefully SONY will take on board some of the comments being made and address these issues for GT5.

"Detail overload" - 5 April 2008
Once i was finally allowed to play the game (it has to be installed on your ps3 and then theres an update)and actually get to put myself behind the wheel of some rubbish car i was amazed at how awesome the graphics really are. There is no game on this planet that looks this good and it will probably be awhile until another does except GT5 of course. The detail is also incredible and the developers of Forza will be rightly in awe of how much rubbish a game can put in that makes probably no difference to a casual gamer.
The gameplay is also amazing, the new cockpit view is the first ive found which doesn't impede your view and is probably the best view to use, you actualy feel like your driving a Mazda 3!
My main quarm is that i have Porsche 911 sat in my drive and since this is really a bloody expensive demo i do not see the point in making it nigh impossible to start driving mega and super cars and of course the Ferrari F1 car. I do not want to spend the next year saving credits to play with an F1 car because by then the proper game will be out (probably) and prologue will be dusty and probably put in a boot sale.
A Brilliant game demo that cost me £25, a lot of depth for a demo and amazing graphics and gameplay but it's still A DEMO

"Realism?" - 8 April 2008
Two words :-
Photo
Realistic
Seriously, this is the nicest looking game out there, especially with the excellent use of HDR lighting, reflections and the high resolution output via HDMI.
One downside to the game is the need to perform an online update before GT-TV and the online facilities are available. The update fails repeatedly as it appears the servers are just getting hammered. All I can say is keep on trying and it'll get there in the end.

"In the meantime" - 9 April 2008
Before you can get going, you need to do a quick installation which to many people is an annoyance, but I just went and made myself a cup of tea, why not? Anyway, once this is done, you will immediately notice that this game is very shiny in almost every way, but shiny in a stylish and rather passive way. It feels very welcoming to say the least.
We all know that the GT series is renowned for being a visual tour de force, and they've kept the trend up nicely, and have also added and interior driving view which is quite impressive. And once you've finished a race watching replays is always very rewarding as it (for the most part) makes you look like a driving god, and your mind will boggle at how they manage to make it look quite that good, not to mention the sounds which are like the gaming industry's answer to mozart. Okay, maybe that's a bit far, but all the engine sounds were recorded from their real life counterparts (allegedly), so no complaining about engine noises.
The online aspect is good fun, although there are still a few kinks that need ironing out, but they are fairly minor.
The AI this time round, contrary to what a lot of people have said, is MASSIVELY improved when compared to previous installments; it will actively try to out manoeuvre you, outbrake you, and genrally get on your nerves. For example: if you park your car across the main straight, you will NOT get hit unless you try to.
People are still complaining about the lack of damage but PD have said they are going to integrate damage into the game later this year, so if you're feeling sadistic, you'll be well looked after.
This is not half a game either, it is a prologue, not a demo, read the label. In any case, if you manage to get all golds in the 4 'leagues', the online aspect is still there and is updated weekly.
So if you don't want to ingest a swarm flies and small bird, don't buy this because your jaw is guarunteed to drop if you so much as think about apreciating how good it looks. It might not be as adrenaline-fuelled as some other games on the market, but it sure as hell looks good, and it will stand you in good stead until GT5 proper comes along (which won't be for another year, go figure). Hope this helps!

"Excellent" - 11 April 2008
This is by far the best game I have for my PS3, I am totally addicted to it.
Installation is a bit of a pain and Multi Player is useless as all the other players seem to think it is some kind of destruction derby but apart from these problems the game is fantastic.

"GT5" - 23 April 2008
I think that its a quality game cant wait for the full version to be released, I do agree tho it would be better if there was car damage tho

"Crash penalties.......rubbing is racing" - 23 May 2008
Completed the challenges, can't wait for the full game, nice richly coloured environment, the car are awesome but what I think lets the game down is you have to behave and drive like a gentleman, the crash penalties for hitting another car, for hitting a barrier or even leaving the track, hasn't anyone heard the term "rubbing is racing" what amazed me most when racing I was hit from behind and I got the penalty ! if this game is being marketed for all ages then perhaps I would have to recommend Paradise Burnout instead it's a no brainer and more fun, I love the Gran Turismo series but are we heading for a politically correct game, where's the damage to vehicle if we do crash, instead of a penalty give us damage to deal with and having to pit stop to repair. On-line is brilliant, have had some good races, just get the full game released so we can experience it and make our minds up
